DAB+ support released in DenMux 1.3 PDF Print E-mail

18th November, 2009

After almost a year in development, the first release of the re-engineered DenMux, version 1.3, was launched today.

DenMux 1.3 adds support for several new service types, including DAB+ Audio programmes, TPEG services, and DMB video.

It also includes additional support for test pattern generation, including an audio tone generator, a pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) generator-encoder, and a null-packet encoder. The user interface has been entirely reworked, the help system extended, and a number of sample source data have been included for convenience.

The first release (1.3.0) delivers the DAB+ Audio encoder, incorporating the aacPlus (TM) codec developed by Coding Technologies, now licensed by Dolby Laboratories. A patch to 1.3.0 will be released during November to deliver the first incarnation of the new TPEG encoder.

A second release (1.3.1) is planned for release before Christmas, delivering the DMB video encoder too.

Managing Director Duncan Mackay said,

"This represents a major step forward for Vericast and the DenMux product line. The addition of DAB+ encoding support will open new markets for us, and the new API architecture enables our partners to leverage the DenMux technology directly within their own products. We are approaching the point of full coverage across the DAB, DAB+ and DMB services in use today, which is particularly good news for our test partners and customers."

DenMux has been entirely redesigned since version 1.0. The DenMux encoding-multiplexing 'engine' now resides in a DLL, and is leveraged through a C/C++ API. The architecture uses an internal streaming framework, and is easily extended to cover new service types in future.

The DAB+ and DMB encoders are licensed as separate options, leaving the price of the standard DenMux product unchanged.
